DONE IN A CHILDISH ROMP. from Blame and Latter Promptly Gives Himself Up to the Police Authorities. The neglect of a hospital surgeon may be the cause of fifteen-year-old Freder- tok Benter, of No. 16 Clinton avenue, Brook!yn, going through life with the haunting memory of having caused the death of his playmate, John Kelly, twelve years old, of No. 70 Cariton ave- nue. Young Kelly died to-day from a stab wound in the breast inflicted by Benter while skylarking yesterday after- noon. Benter was arraigned in Myrtle Ayenue Court charged with homicide, The Benter boy is a well set-up youth, Kelly was small and weak. Both boys attended Public School No. 12 in Adelphi street. They met other boys yesterday afternoon and romped about the neigh- orhood until about & o'clock, when the crowd separated to go home. Kelly protested that if Benter kept on sharpening the pencil there would he nothing left of it, and made & grad for his property, Benter laughingly dodged and stepped backward, with Kelly after him. There was a mix-up out of which Kelly came holding his hand to his left breast and saying that he was hurt. "Phere were two other boys present, Frank McCaffrey, of No. 28 Vanderbilt ayenue, and Thomas Malone, of No. 406 Myrtle avenue. Accompanied by Ben- ter they helped Kelly into a nearby cellar where he removed his shirt, dis- closing a small wound that bled pro- fusely. Benter was advised by his com- panions to skip and Keliy walked to his home. He told his mother that he had bee ti Dot, the theatrical world as “Jack the Glan: Killer,” MRS.
