(Special to The Eventhe World) JNEWARK, N. J., Feb, 9.—Engincer Bames Seymour, jr., who proposes to re- Weem the Passaic River by flushing it even and a half mile canal from Bull's Berry, 6n the Hudson, to Passale, will Present ‘his plans to the State Sewerage Commission to-morrow. The State Commission figures on nearly duplicating the sewerage systems of the fowns between Paterson and Newark, ni it is contended py Mr, Seymonr that one bit of work alone connected with such & project would cost $10,000,- 00, Whereas the men who figured on the job estimate that amount as the total outlay. ‘The engineer saya that the total cost would reach $10,000,0%, While $10,000,000 would be sutticlent to dig and place in good condition the ship eanal, “I had not received much encourage- ment from the commission,” said Mr. Seymour to-day, “until quite rece when 1 was able io get an fen with one of the members my @cheme seemed to him so plausille that the asserted he considered {t his duty to present it to his coll s. While singing “Nearer, My God, to ‘Theo’ last night at services of the Gospel Mission, No. 235 Monmouth street, Jersey City, Mrs. Amelia Wood- hall, of No, 357 Highth street, dropped dead in her seat. Her body was taken hhome by friends. She died of apoplexy. Mrs, Woodhall went to the mission in excellent spirits. She encountered Several Indies before services and said Fhe felt as though she could sing better than ever and asked those who were to sit near her to listen to her singing. When it came time to sing “Nearer, My God, to Thee” all cyes were on Mra. Woathall. She aang the first line in a beautiful soprano voice. When about to finish the second line she screamed and fell @ead on the floor of her pew. Feb. 9—A very largo lynx, which, it is believed, travelled all the way from the Canadian tvoods, as such animals are rarely seen around Now York, was captured in a trap by Grant Zarr, of Chestnut Ridge, yesterday, For several weeks the farmers have been annoyed by th@ theft of hundreds of odickens during the night. All kinds of traps were set, and though the tillers vf the soil sat up all night with loaded shot guns watching for the chicken ‘thief, the fowls continued to disapear at an alarming rate. Mr, Zarr's chicken coop was robbed oye night of thirty fowl, and ho finally decided to set a large trap near the hennery, with the result that the lynx was captured. It fought desperately to escape, and three shots had to be fired into its body to kill tt Tho animal measured nearly six feet from {ts nose to the tip of Its tail. NEWARK, eb. 9—With his | andages and much | oss of blood from solf injuries, Harry Gilder, allas Harry Smith, was arraigned ni the Fourth Precinct Court this morning on a charge of stealing a gold watch, ‘The cepture of the prisoner was sen-| sationalsational. About 10 o'clock yes- lerday morning the police were notified that a man was trying to sell a hand- some gold watch for a ridiculously low price at a house in Bank street. Detec- tives Rammeibs and Koerber went to| the store of Adolph Ortmann, No, Bank street. Gilder was inside. About an hour later Policeman Mc- Manus was informed that a man cov- ered with blood had gone into another house In Bank street. Entering, the bl:ecoat recognized the prisoner and sprang upon him. A fierce struggle ensued, in which the officer fared badly, The man sprang through another window, taking sash and all, and made gvod his esoape a second time. Koerber and Rammoibs found the man in Belmont avenue, but Gilder saw the detectives first and took to his heels. He ran, closely followed, into the hou of Policeman Kress, at No. 22 Lillie street, and was captured just as he was about to jump throug’ a window in the top floor of the house. Had he suc- eceded in getting through this window he would have dashed himself to death, a MORE TIME FOR PATRICK. Court of Appeals Grants Extension in Presenting Case. A man weighing 150 pounds has fat enough in his body to make a dozen good sized candles. That's “fat enough.” Too much fat or tes ttle indicates a dis- ordered physical condition. The average American has too little fat. He is gaunt and spare. Americans are known to the world as a nation of dyspeptics. That is the price they pay for a success which does not take time to eat properly. No man can be stronger than his stomach. ‘The man with a "weak stomach” will be a weak man. Nature sus- tains life by food. All the strength of the body is derived from food. But it is not the food which: is eaten but the food that is digested and assimilated which is life-sustaining and strength- giving. When the stomach is "weak,” the food is imperfectly digested and the bo: Sa consequence, is insufficiently nourished. No fat can be put on the body until the nourishment derived from food exceeds the daily requirements of the body in wear and waste of tissue. When the stomach is weak,” the nutrition falls below the daily requirements of the body.
