Alleged quotations from the forth- coming message of President Roose- velt, pretending to give his views on trust legislation, were circulated in the street. They were so miid as compared with what Wall street expected, that conservative speculators ignored them. Temporarily their circuation had a g00d effect upon the stocks which would be hardest hit by anti-trust legisiauion, Sugar Pushed Up. The puazle of the morning trading was the advance in Louisville and Nashville. It rose over 7 points yesterday and con- tinued to rise to-day until it crossed 130, As the Gates-Harris-Elwood Interest Im the issue is said to have been disposed of, it was given out that the rise was on reports of assurances that the minority stockholders would be taken care of and that the dividend rate would be ad- vanced. The dividend period is near and there are no known facts to support the prop- osition advanced by the bears that the dividend may be decreased. Manhattan was one of the strongest issues. It opened at 168, but showed decided firmness on the advance. The Gefinite statement that control of the Interborough Company cannot be changed for five years had much to do with the investment buying, which was the feature of to-day's trading in it. He was the champion basket-ball player of the Massachuetts League, and played shortstop with the champion Portland baseball team, of the New England League. “When an athlete fs in training it is necessary to follow set rules of diet and exercise, and, above all, to be temperate and avoid stimulants or drugs. In no other way can the pow- ers of endurance be increased and the vital force be retained to rise to the supreme physical effort when the de- mand is made. Il have used Father John’s Medi- cine for a complicated cold and throat and lung trouble with wonderful suc- cess. Your medicine is a splendid tonic and body builder. It ought to be In every home.” Athletes in training use Father John’s Medicine freely as a Food Tonic, because it is a body builder and gives vital force to the system that prevents colds, pneumonia and consumption, diseases to which all athletes are exposed after great physi- cal strain. The patent medicines, with their opium, morphine and other polsonous drugs, are shunned by athletes, and should be by all people, because they only paralyze the nerves and weaken the system.
