DIED CRIEVING FOR MURDERER, Her Mind Unbalanced After Hus- band Killed His Mother, Brother and Sister, Mrs. Palmer Drank Poison. KILLED HERSELF ON ROGF. Her Spouse Insane and In an Asylum, She Worked Hard to Provide Dell- cacles Until It Is Believed She Went Crazy. Mrs. Arthur Palmer, grieving over the, plight of a husband who murdered his mother, brother and sister, ended her life by drinking carbolic acid on the roof of a fashionable apartment- house at No, 400 West Bnd avenue. For six years she had struggled with Poyerty, seeking to provide delicacies for her husband, who ts confined in @ hospital for the insane, but her mind has gradually given way under the strain. Since her husband's crime Mra. Palmer has worked ns a house servant and wae Jately employed by J. E. Van Doren, at No. 400 West End avenue. Yesterday she did the work as usual. Bhe was always quiet and seemed no ifferent than usual. She left the house for a few minutes in the afternoon and it is supposed that she bought the poison while she was out. When Mr. Van Doren came home last evening she told him that @ was going to rest a few minutes before dinner, and when he returned later he found her gone. He traced her to the roof, where she had a bottle to her lps. He struck it to the roof, but not be- fore she had swallowed a large part of it, A physician was summoned, but the woman was dead before he reached the house. The Coroners physician, Dr. Higgins, said there was little doubt that carbolic acid caused her death, but that an autopsy would be per- formed to-day. This is thought advis- jable in view of the strange actions of rs, Palmer before her death, Arthur Palmer murdered hia aged other, his brothgr and his sister in “January, 1997, He escaped after the erime and went to St. Louis, where he wos arrested. He waa adjudged in- @ane and sent to an asylum for the insane instead of to prison. a TURKEY HCH FOR THANKSCWC The Price Has Gone Up to 20 Cents in All the City Markets Owing to the Scarcity of the * Popular Bird.
