DOVRR, Eng., Aug. 28.—Montague Holbein and Frank Holmes, the Eng- lishmen who tried to swim the Eng- lish Channel, were both unsuccessful, Holmes, who started from Dover early to-day, was seized with a cramp and abandoned the attempt when six miles off shore.
