BURIED ALIVE TWO HOURS,» Italian Laborer, Packed in Sand and Stone, Survives Through a Miracle. COVERED IN A CAVE-IN. After Two Hours of Digging He Was Dragged Out and Will Probably Recover. Burlea for nearly two hours in a grave of his own digging, and nally to conte out alive, was the strange exnerience of Bennedetto Abrouzio, twenty-five years olf, of No. 2% Johnson avenue, Brooklyn, Abrouzio was digging © cesspool on Winthrop street, near East New York avenue, yesterday. By noon he had ex- cavated a hole ten feet deep and mine feet in dinmeter. Two men stood at the top drawing up the carth as Abrouzio filled the bucket. Without warning the sides caved in and Abrouzlo was burfed decp under earth and stones His companions rushed for help, and seon began to dig for the Imprisoned man. An ambulance call was sent, which brought a Kings County Hospital ambulance, with Dr. John D. Byrne, Jr.. In charge, Dr. Byrne took a shovel and assisted fn the digging. After about an hour's hard work and many unsuccessful ef- forts to locate the man, Abrouzio's head ‘was uncovered. Upon it rested a huge rock. He had been buried standing. He was unconscious, but life was still there. An attempt to lift him out falled, as the carth held his body firmly. While the men dug frantically Dr. Byrne administered stimulants, After half an hour's digging Abrouzio was re- leased and taken to the hospital, There he finally regained consclousness and will probably be discharged well to-day, “It was most remarkable," sald Dr. Byrne, “how he could have lived. The earth wan packed closely around him and it seems nearly impossible for him to have found any alr to keep life in aim." So many won- derful things have been discovered in the past century that it has seemed almost Impossible that any> thing more could be found to add (to the comfort or benefit of man. Probaby no branch of sclence has made such wonderful strides as have been made in the practice of medi- cine. Diseases that a number of years ago were considered fatal are now known to be curable, Even con- sumption is no longer looked upon. with the dread that it formerly in- splred. It 1s right on this line of wi diseases that we now have news a wonderful discovery—one that is _ bound to revolutionize the science of mecicine and startle the world. Every one is famillar with methods that have been employed by’ phy- sictans for years in cases that they were afraid would develop tt date ade cline. In all troubles of thi lungs, bronchial tubes and Core similar ailments that were known to end disastrously, about the first thing the doctor would do would be. to rec~ ommend cod liver oil, for cod livw oll has been recognized for @ many years as arrest medicinal properties adapted for the cure of euch ety Every one knows obj however, to the use of this nauseat- ing remedy. So extremely disagree= ~ able is the taste and smell of cod’: liver ofl that many people have ac- tually been unable to take a are dose of jt. Many others hay herolc efforts to take the inedicine, but have been obliged to abandon it atter struggling with the horrible stuff for a few days. Tho consequence {s that thousands: have drifted into incurable diseases who might have been saved had it been possible to administer this: po- tent medicine. Enough people to prove to the medical profession and the world at large its intrinsic value. Such patients as were with unusually strong stomachs dec then, could not a form of it be de- vised to be administered to whose digestive organs had Deer weakened by disease? ‘vhis 1s exactly what scientists and chemists have been aiming at for. what has, French chemists. Their secret has tan brought to America and our own Mr, Edward D. Cahoon, Tree urer of Riker’s Drug Store, 6th ave- nue and 23d st.. has succeeded in con- necting himself with the prominent firm of Boston chemists who arey” placing this new preparation on the market. The preparation in question, - now that it has been discovered, like-— all other great inventions, is simple, - By a peculiar process the liver of the — live cod {3 treated In such a manner that there is obtained an extract which contains all, and only all, of the’ curative properties that have made cod liver oil famous. The hor- rible-smelling, nauseating-tasting fat that has always be 1 a part of this remedy has been left entirely behind. This curative extract is the basis of Vinol, which the Riker Drug Store is presenting to the public. It is placed in a delicious table wine, and, in itself being tastele:s, the consumer. is unable to distinguish the fact that’ he is taking anything more than‘a . pleasant port wine. The Riker Drug Store has indeed struck it just right in making ar- rangements to handle this new rem- edy, which goes under the name of Vinol, Wine of Cod Liver Oil. It is worth any one’s while to talk to Rikers about it cnd learn directly from them the good that is being done by finding a way to administer what has always been a horrible and much dreaded medicine in a that Is ectually pleasant, to say nothing of tts being a hundred times more efficient. ¥ - Sunday {s the day to advertise youp wants.
