5 iN \ WILL FACE PATRICK. Lawyer's Office Boy Back Here to Be Witness at Trial. MADE FULL STATEMENT. Important Document About Which District-Attorney Will Say Nothing. District-Attorney Philbin ts confident that the statement of Albert T. Pat- tick's office boy, Joseph Mayer, who re- ‘turned from Europe yesterday, will go 4 long way toward the connection of the lawyer with the munler of Willlam Marsh Rice, the milloinatre. What this statement !s the District-Attorney de- clines to eay. Mayer, who is nineteen years old. eailed for Europe unexpectedly on Sept, 16 last, and the District-Attorney later learned n good authority that he had not only purchased the poison with which Rico was killed but was present when the alleged bogus will was drawn isposing of Mr. Rice’s millions. Upon Mayer’s arrival in Liverpool he was seen to leave the ship by some Scotland Yard men, and when it be- came known that he was wanted here to testify against Patrick he was traced to the home of Joseph Rosenberg, an uncle, in Berlin, where he had gone to study the German language. District- Attorney Philbin cabled the Berlin authorities that Mayer was wanted here end asked them to watch him. They did so until George Cartwright, one of Assistant District-Attorney Gar- van’s friends, arrived. Mayer accom- panied him to the office of the United States Consul, where he made a lengthy atatement tn rgard to his knowledge of the Rice murder. Mayer and Cartwright returned to New York yesterday on the steamship Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse and were met at the pier by Mr. Garvan, to whom was given the statement made on the other side by Mayer. This statement covers more than one hundred type- written pages. It was sworn to by Mayer and attested at the offico of the United States Consul-General in Berlin. That Mayer's testimony will be start- ling 1s acknowledged by the District- Attorney, who is elated over having secured him as a witness for the prose- cution. CURES CANGER BY ROENTEN RAYS CHICAGO PHYSICIAN FINDS NEW TREATMENT. Great Interest Aroused in New York in Dr. Gilman’s Dis- coveries, Publication of the theory of Dr. John E. Gilman, of the Hahnemann Hospital, in Chicago, that the Roentgen ray {s an effective cure for the dreaded disease of cancer, has stoused he greatest in- terest in the medical profession {n this city. Such is the character of the Hehnemann Institution and the reputa- tion of Dr. Gilman that his words com- mand the highest respect. While none of the physicians at the General Memorial Hospital at One Hundred and Fifth street and Central Park West, which is the cancer hos- pital of New York, cared to be quoted on Gilman's alleged discoveries, they all wai that hi snew method of oure was ‘worthy of the greatest consideration and would undoubtedly be tried in New York. Dr. Gilman’s method is simply to give the patient remedies that will puild up healthy tissues and submit the can- cer germs. He declares that he has lost Dut ene patient whom he has treated with the says and this was due to ex- haustion from inability to take proper nourishment. ‘This treatment is altogether different from any which ts generally practised by the medical profession. There are Dractically but two methods in general use—the knife and freezing of the in- + fected parts in the effort to ill the germs by cold. It !s well-known that @ cure or cancer has hitherto been con- sidered impossible. AGED WOMAN WANDERING. Mother of Thomas F. Burns Left Home on Election Night, Thomas F. Burns, of Tuckahoe, N.
