When tho case of Charles Seaton was called in Yorkville Court this morning the handsome young man accused of awindling women cast an expectant glance around the room. ‘There was disappointment on his fea- tures until a policeman stepped up and whispered to him. Then he smiled, for the policeman had told him that his fiancee, Estelle Crum, was waiting In an outer room. The young woman had reached court early, She drove up in a cab and had @ long consultation with Seaton's law- yer, Abraham Levy. She told Mr. Lev that she woul! get ball for her lover— real estate bail if possible. If necea- ary she sald she would deposit cash bail with the court. Three witnesses against Seaton were heard. Banker Hugh J. Calyholm, whose mame was used as a reference by the swindler, testified that he did not know Seaton and that the use of his name was unwarranted, Miss Miller and Miss Whiting, who had almost been persuede! to give Sea- ton money, told of his methods. A long argument between Mr. Levy and Deputy Assistant District-Attorney Skidmore followed. Mr. Levy insisted that {t had not been proved that his client had xwindled anybody or had con- templated swindling anybody. He took occasion to say, also, that Seaton was not married. Magistrate Brann ordered the lawyers or both sides to submit briefs later in the day and fixed dal! at $500.
