Y this is not meant a magazine FOR great people, although it wil! appeal to all classes, the savants and the novices alike. Like a dinner served by an ex- pert chef, it includes everything, from soup to nuts. But it is primarily a magazine OF the people. A magazine in whose 16 large pages (equal to 64 ordinary magazine pages) there will be found the DOINGS THOUGHTS SAYINGS IMAGINATIONS of those human beings, alive or dead, who are shaping or have shaped the destiny of the world in WAR PHILOJSOPHY ART LITERLATVRE On reading (and, we hope, believing) this, you will say, ‘‘But that’s a high-priced magazine ; I can’t afford it!”” Goodness, no! It’s a magazine that will not cost you anything, for you will certainly buy the Sunday World, if you wish to keep in touch with current events, and this great 16-page magazine will be merely a feature of the coming Sunday issue. But it is, this week especially, worth calling attention to. Who, in the way of GREAT PEOPLE, is the most im- portant man on the face of the earth to-day? Who holds the future of England (as many think) in his palm? Who has made it necessary for the British Empire—a race of patriots, to their credit be it said—to draft soldiers to fight for the Queen? A Boer Named De Wet ! Probably you know as little of him, personally, as do Gen. Kitchener and the rest of the great English army in South Africa, who are trying to catch him. But He HAS Been Caught ! Not by the English, however, but by a clever special artist of the Sunday World’s staff, who has been in camp with this remarkable genius of war, and made a very, very lifelike sketch of him, seated cn his horse, armed for the next conflict with the Albions. This is to be reproduced in colors, and along with the interesting article on Gen. De Wet and some other pictures (new photographs) of Boers in the field, will prove a splen- did thing for Boer sympathizers to cut out and keep. Who is the cleverest DIPLOMAT ever sent to the United States by China? A man who, when public opinion was aroused against him and his home government, said: “Be calm! "’ and succeeded in enforcing his wise counsel? His name is Wu Ting Fang, ‘eg Ghe Chinese Minister, 4 4 and the Sunday World has interviewed him, through that cleverest of women interviewers and artists, Miss KATE CAREW. (Of Minister Wu, by the wav, we shall have a great deal to say in lo-morrow's ad- vertisement. You really should read it.) Who are some other great people in the present or past history of the world ? SOCRATES, PLATO, LA ROCHEFOUCAULD, LIVY, CICERO, CONFUCIUS, MAHOMET, CER- VANTES, BURKE, SHAKESPEARE ? These certainly deserve a place in the category, and from the wisdom of each the Sunday World will present, as a new departure, a pearl. And these are only a few of those who will be quoted. If wealth makes pcople interesting, ALFRED VAN- DERBILT and his bride are about as interesting people any that are being talked about just now. You will there- fore be highly entertained by looking at some photographs of this young couple, taken when he was thinking of marbles and she of dolls. Bernhardt << 2 is great. Isn't she? We have already presented her as a great sculptor, and mayhap you have ycurself wit- nessed her greatness as an actor. As a woman of ideas she is also great. She occasionally scintillates. For Sun- day World readers, this week, Mme. BERNHARDT vill try to show that the “Only Beautiful Women Are Ghin Women.” The inventors of Railways, Steamships, the Printing Press, Photography, the Telephone, and so on, up to the most recent invention, are measurably great. Not so great, perhaps, as ‘some inventors to come, any more than the astronomers of the past will not be outdone by those to come. Yet the Sunday World thinks pretty well of them, and will have an interesting article to present to you. Ghe People of Mars! We have just had a signal from them, Mr. Tesla thinks, and soon we may be talking tothem. Then we shall want to know what they look like. Some of the greatest authorities in the world have volunteered their ideas to the Sunday World, and you can get a good idea of your neighbors from the descriptions they give of them. It’s a great woman who does good for her sisters, 50 we do not hesitate in declaring Ghe Home Page, XZ By Mrs. Harriet Hubbard Ayer, the work of a great woman. Likewise, the eight-page COMIC SUPPILEMENT, under the direction of a man, GEO. W. PECK, who has made millions laugh. That's real greatness. But More To- Morrow ! Pag ORD.
