| - 800 IRISH LASSIES ON NEW An invading army of Irish domestics was landed this morning on the Cunard Une pier from the Royal Mail steamship Ivernia, just in frem Liverpool and Queenstown on her maiden voyage. There were over eight hundred daugh- ters of Erin in the consignment, which ‘was the largest brovght over by one steamer this season. Many will remain at (his port, bot the majority are booked for Hastern and ‘Western cities. All were typical representatives of the land of Brian Boru, rosy-cheeked, buxom lassies, with that happy-go-lucky disposition of the face. When the steamer tied Up to the dock they broke out in mighty chorus, singing the songe of their country to give vent to their joy om greeting the new land. There were the Murphys from County ‘Tyrone, the Doolans from Munster, the O'Briens from Kerry, the McCarthys from Cork, *the Hoolahans from Clare, the McGuires from Limerick, the Hen- ressys from Waterford, and hundreds of others, all true representatives of the Iris race. To keep them company there were 117 English, nine Scotch, 381 Swedes and 138 Norwegians, But there were no racial prejudices and from the time the steam- er drew out of the Liverpool dock the ‘tween decks rang with mirth and song Boon after the steamers arrival all the immigrants were crowded into barges, which, conveyed them to the immigration station at the Battery, where their pedigrees were taken. Kate Boyle, a third-class passenger on the Ivernia, was stricken with diph- theria and died and was buried at sea when the vessel was out three days.
