WN WHITE ORDERED RUMOR THAT LADYSMITH . CAN’T HOLD OUT LONGER (Copyright, 1900, by the Press Publishing Company, New York World.) (Special Coble Despateh to The World.) LONDON, Jan. 27—10 P. M—Up to this hour no confirmation has been obtained of the rumor that Ladysmith’s surrender had been decreed by the Cabinet Defense Committee. ; The only statement given out by the War Office was at 9.20 P. M., when it was stated that a I, _ decision had been arrived at to embody two additional militia battalions and another battery of artillery. Military experts say it is quite possible Ladysmith has surrendered... An inkling of this would be a basis for the rumors that surrender had been ordered. No government, however, could hope to survive popular rage if it ordered White to surrender, The most careful inquiry failed to reveal any foundation for the report. LONDON RUMOR THAT GEN. WHITE .
