Last year this course was only three-quarters of a mile in ciroumfer- ence, and was what is known as an out- law track. When the Percy-Gray law went into effect this Bpring, enough additional ground was secured to make it a mile around, The stretch is now fully three furlongs in length; the turns are rather sharp, and the head of the stretch can- not be seen from the grand stand with+ out considerable neck-stretching. The track is narrower than any other near the metropolis, but, as fields will not be heavy here, this will not matter. Aqueduct is not an unattractive piace. ‘The grand stand, while..uapretentious, was clean and neat; the surroundings were picturesque, and glimpses of Ja- maica Bay could be had between the trees, There was a band of music in the atand, and the least said about it the better, The card was not especially at- tractive, but nevertheless a good-sized crowd put in an appearance. The ‘weather was cool and pleasant and the track fast. John Cavanagh was put off the track. He was informed that Tom Eagan had the exclusive privilege of selling sup- plies and distributt information to the bookies and he was forced to re- move his supply box immediately. The Aqueduct and Brighton Beach racks will apply to the Jockey Club lor @ reatrangement of dates after this week. hton wants to continue until Aug. 10, when the Aqueduct people will nr from Aug. 12 to Aug. 25, FIRST RACK. (Special to The Evening Worl) RACE TRACK, SHEEPSHEAD BAY, July 1.—The dissolution sale of Gideon & Daly's stable was begun at 2.9) this afternoon in this paddock, The fact that the stable is one of the most powerful on the turf brought down 300 horsemen and breeders, some of whom journeyed from Kentucky and Ten- nessee, Rurns & Waterhouse, the California millionaire turfmen, and W. 8. Hobart, the wealthy student whore home is on the Pacific slope, were also represented among the bidders, The trainers on the ground conceded that the hteen thoroughbreds put up at auction represented the finest lot ever sold in this country, with the exception of those knocked down at the famous sale of Pierre Lorillard’s horses at Rancocas several years ago. Before the sale the guests of Gideon & Daly had an elaborate luncheon, served by Caterer Villepaugh, of the Coney Island Jockey Club. The auction was lively from the start, There was applause when The Butter- files, Keenan, Ramapo, Hastings and Nank! Poo were led into the ring. Hastings is engaged in the Futurity Stakes, worth $5,000; the Great Fastern Handicap, the Tidal Stakes of 18% and all the stakes at Saratoga.
