QUEBEC, July 9.—A terrible accident ooourred at 3 o'clock this morning at Cratg’s Road Station on the Grand Trank Railway, about fourteen miles west of Levis. The number killed in placed at twenty- five,and the number injured at thirty- four. A very large pilgrimage from Sher- brooke, Magog, Windsor Mills and Rich- mond had left the latter town about 10 o'clock last evening for the Shrine of Bt. Ann de Beaupre. There were two sections of the train, one running a few minutes behind the other. The first section was standing at Craig Road station taking water when the second section, passing the semaphore, dashed into the rear Pull- man qoach of the first section, smash- ing it to kindling wood, and Killing, it ts said, everybody in that car except the Pullman conductor, who jumped, Engineers McLeod and Fireman Dick Perkins, of the second section, were both killed outright. The Pullman coach was telescoped imto the first-class cars of the first sec- tion, killing a number of passengers riding in them. Among the killed are three priests. ‘The dead and injured will be taken to Lewis about noon, when thelr names will be ascertained. A special wrecking train from Levis, with railway officials, a wrecking crew and physicians arrived early this morn- ing. MONTREAL, Quebec, July 9—The ofMfcials of the Grand Trunk Railway report that the number of killed in the Craig's Road disaster is but thirteen, and that twenty-nine is the number of the injured. —___+=____ SKIRMISHES IN CUBA. HAVANA, July 9—In a skirmish at the coffee plantation of Retiro, near ‘Minas Daiquiri, Province of Santiago de Cuba, the insurgent leader, Victoriano Garson, and five more insurgents were wounded and Tomas Padron was Killed. Ldeut. Pedro Rabenes, of the Union Battalion, with fifty soldiers, on the way from Jobos! to Jatibonico, near Jucaro, and on Mount Guerrilleras, was surrounded by 400 insurgents. Lieut, Rabenes was wounded, but succeeded in holding the position which he occupied when attacked for three hours, owing to the rapidity of fire of the Mauser rifle, Finally he was rein- foreed by a company of Government troops and the insurgents retired. ‘The troops lost four killed.
