I MAYOR SIGNS LIGHT LAW. Lights-on-Vehicles Measure Is One of the Corporation Statutes. TWICE PISSED BY ALDERMEN, “But Because of the Very Few Who Objected the Board Reconsidered It. x BIQHEVENING WORLD” VICTORY. Bicyolists Will Now Be Protected from Drivers, as Well as the Latter frem Cyclers. Mayor Strong has signed the ordi- nance, advocated by ‘The Evening World,” and twice passed by the Board of Aldermen, compelling all passenger vehicles to carry lights after dark. The Mayors action settles matters finally, and hereafter the law will be strictly enforced by the pollo ‘With few exceptions, owners of pas- eenger vehtoles acknowledged the justice on the measure there was no diminution ts proposed introduction before the Board of Aldermen, and they proceeded at once to furnish their carriages with lights. By the time the ordinance was first passed by the Aldermen hundreds of lights twinkled from the dashboards of vehicles whose owners rode in them after dark. Even after the Aldermen decided to Teconaider thetr action and vote again on tre measure there was no diminution in the number of lights to be seen at night on boulevard and avenue. Carriage owners were satisfied that “The Evening World” was right, and that the ordinance would finally pass. Bubsequent events have proved that they were right. With lights on all vehicles, pedestrians and wheelmen may now enjoy a feeling security from acci- dent at night which was impossible be- fore ‘The Evening World” suggested and successfully carried through the Board of Aldermen, the law as it now stands. BICYCLISTS RUN DOWN. Wheel. J. C. Lawin, of Throg’s Neck, was held yesterday tn $1,000 bail for examination in Morrisania Police Court, charged with reckless driving Lavin, it 1s alleged, tried to.drive over Richard Stack, a Fordham wheelman, on Pelham avenue, Saturday.
