Jo Be Between 42d and 44th w_ Streets and from 7th to Oth Avenues, i AT OTH STREET. tion Company's Plans Are Almost Certain to Be Adopted. = IX-TRACK SUSPENSION BRIDGE. High Water—To Cost $25,090,000. Tl ‘The New York and New Jersey Bridge ‘ommission, represented by Andrew H. ireen, President, Evan Thomas and Isa- Straus, adopted resolutions to-day pecifying the location of the depot in his city It is to be between Forty-second and Forty-fourth streets, and to extend from JBeventh avenue, westward, to a point between Eighth and Ninth avenues, In the same resolution it is provided that the bridge approach in New York is to be between Sixty-eighth and Sixty- ninth streets, Its course from the ‘water line to the depot is laid out as follows: ‘Thence running easterly between Bix- ty-eighth and Sixty-ninth streets to a point about 732 feet west of Eleventh avenue; thence curving to the right on & curve with a radius of 62 feet to Six- ty-sixth street, to a point 160 feet west of Eleventh avenue; thence southerly and parallel to Eleventh avenue, and 150 feet westerly therefrom to a point 221-2 feet south of Forty-sixth street; thence curving to the left to a point 60 feet north of Forty-third street, and 400 feet east of Eleventh avenue; thence easter- ly parallel to Forty-third street, and 60 feet distant therefrom to the westerly Une of Seventh avenue, Although the formal adoption of plans for the bridge itself was delayed until next Tuesday, it is understood that the Commission will decide in favor of those Presented to-day by the Union Bridge Company. The plans must be filed with the Secretary of War by June 7. ‘The adjournment until Tuesday was taken in order that these plans may be examined by Engineer Theodore Cooper, ‘They call for a six-track suspension bridge, leaving the entire river free be- tween the piers, ‘I'he centre of the bridge Js 150 feet above high water, It is sus- ended from two towers, 3,110 fect apart, These towers are to be’ 57 feet high and rest on stone foundations, thirty feet above high water. The masonry 1s to extend 122 feet below the water line. ‘The plans provide for a bridge 125 fect wide and to consist of twelve cables, The engineer is Charles W. McDonald. The Company offers to guarantee to build the bridge for $25,000,000, and the assurance Is given that the work can be completed in five years. ‘There is no question but that the New York and New Jersey Bridge Company, of New York, approves the Union Bridge Company's plans, and will seek to get for them the approval of the New York Commission and of the Secretar of War, but there is some fine work being done by the company that owns the New Jersey charter, and no one knows exactly what will be the outcome, This concern is known as the New York and New Jersey Bridge Company, of New Jersey, and to build the bridge it will have to Work in harmony with the New York company. ‘This was done until one day week Vice-President James T. Spark- man, of the New Jersey company, ig- nored the New York State Bridge Com- mission, and filed with the Secretary of War a plan drawn up by Engineer Geo, 8. Morrison. The New York people knew nothin about this and Secretary Swan declared to-day that it was illegal. The tmpres- sion was that the New Jersey company will try to have Morrison's plans ap- roved, and that the New York Company favors’ the plans of the Union Bridge Company. ‘The representatives of each sald, how- er, that there was only a slight dif- ference of opinion and that there would harmonious effort to build what- ever bridge Secretary Lamont approves, ‘The Bridge Commission at its meeting to-day recelved a communication from Clerk Ten Eyck, of the Board of Alder- Men, submitting resolutions by the Board, which urged the construction of the bridge. ‘Theodore Cooper, the consulting en- gineer of the Bridge Commission, sent a! communication to the Commission, in which he gave It as his opinion that the act of Congr ‘al plans ubmitted by June 7, and that a year is given for the submission ete plans. He onid the general plan mut show the location, length of span, poMition of fers and other general data, This will Gecided on at the meeting next Tues- last On the same day there will be a joint meeting of the Bridge companies of New York and New Jersey, OUTGOING STEAMERS FULL.
