A BILL TO RESTRAIN GODKIN. Lexow Will Try to Resurrect the Greater New York Meas. ure Tuesday. (Special to The Evening World.) ALBANY, May 10.—The finest kind of @ row attended the consideration of the Supplementary Supply bill, which was reported this morning. It calls for about $400,000, and there are ome very interesting items in it that should be closely scrutinized, It developed after the bill was report- @4 to-day that there was a deadlock over tre bill for thirty days because of a $300 item increasing the allowance of the clerk to the Assembly Committee on Cities, ‘The failure of the Conference Commit- tee to decide upon that $300 will cost the State about $64,000 more than if the bill had been disposed of without deiay. During the deadlock the Senators and Assemblyinen injected items that in- creased the total appropriation $64,000. Two of the items included in the bill ‘are $25,000 rebate to the Panama Canal Company and $43,000 rebate on Buffaio improvements, neither of which is con- sidered a legitimate State obliga‘ion, ‘There will probably be d fight over the bill when it Is called up for passage. ON GREATER NEW YORK. Lexow Will Try to Get the Bill Up Next Tuesday. ALBANY, May 10.—A little old lady, wearing gold spectacles and corkscrew curls, edged her way modestly into the Senate this morning and deposited a big china bowl of fresh wood violets on the desk of Reformer Lexow. He was mightily pleased at first and bowed his acknowledgments to the doner, The Senator distributed his flowers and was in most excellent humor until he hed up a card bearing this egend: ‘bor Defeating the Greater New Yor Bill.” Then he frowned and the ol dy looked pained. She hadn't put the card in the bowl but some joker had done it for her. She meant it for a tribute of her appreciation for the Bems- tor’s interest in educational matters, ‘Speaking of the prospects of the Great- er New Yor's bill, Lexow said he would try to get the bill up next Tuesday, and be thought ‘t would receive @ majority of the votes. In the Assembly this morning the Greater New York bill in i orginal shape was reported by the Cities. Com- mittee, and restored to its place on the calendar. It is now on second reading, and has been made a special order for Monday night. Chairman Grady, of the Cities Committee, says it will pass. Lieut.-Gov, Saxton has made a propo- sition to the opponents of the eater New York bill to use his influence in ppraing the bill with a referendom clause if they are sincere in their expressed wishes to pass it. He has confirmed with the Kinge County Assemblymen und the latter have promised to support the bill with the referendum amendment, It is understood that the bill will be passed by the Assembly Monday night and go to the Senate on Tuesday. Asa part of this scheme the Lieuten- nt-Governor will probably certify to the vernor the necessity of immediate passage of the bill, In order that the conatitutional rule requiring a bill to lle on the desks of members three days may be waived. The walving of this Tule would probably let the bill through by Wednesday at latest. AFTER EDITOR GODKIN. es = Bill on Civil © Appointments. (Special to The Evening World.) (Special to The Evening World.) ALBANY, May 10.—A concurrent res. elution was presented in both houses of the Legislature to-day fixing next Thursday as the date of final adjourn- ment. Tt wan referred to the Finance Com- mittee in the Senate in spite of Senator Cantor's objection. — He wanted it adopted at once in order that the people of the State might realize that adjourn- ment was not far off. “They'll fly flags. The Senate Wor Allow Trucks to Re din the Street: (Spectal to The Evening Worl ALBANY, May 10.—The Senate to-day Passed the bill introduced by Senator Sullivan, and indorsed by 2,300 truckmen of New York City, permitting the atabling of trucks in. the streets in front of the houses of drivers. A former bill on the same subject was vetoed by Mayor Strong on constitu- tional grounds, and the new bill was drafted: to rectify the objections pre- sented by him. Petitions from thousands of truckmen in New York City were recelved urgin the passage of the bill on, the groun that the exclusion of trucks from the streets would drive hundreds of truck- men out of busines: there are not stable bulldings enotigh in the city to house them, LEXOW’S $9,000 FEE. Wait While Depositors Make a Contest. Senator Lexow's fee of $9,000 as coun- sel for David B. Sickels, receiver of the Harlem River Bank, was the sub- ject of a motion before Chief Judge Daly in Court of Common Pleas to-day. The receiver submitted a report and accounting for, Rpneo vat which includes the Senator's bill. Peter R. Gateno, counsel for certain depositors, asked to intervene and con- test the fee of counsel on the ground that it was exorbitant. Assistant Attorney-General Has- brouck opposed the motion. He sald depositors had no right to es after a receiver had been appointed and the State had taken charge. Judge Daly held the Court of Common Pleas had no jurisdiction to make al- lowance to receivers’ counsel, and said the application would have to be made te the Special Term of the Supreme Court. ‘The motion to allow the depositors to Intervene was granted.
