BOTH IN APARTMENT HOUSES, And, Like Many of the Previous Blazes, Were Started in the Basements, POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING. But So Far, as in the Other Ca jave Been Unable to Locate the Incendiaries. The incendiary fire scare which has Created no small disturbance among tne residents of the west side uptown dis- trict during the past month has broken out again. Two mysterious fires occurred last night in the apartment-houses at 575 Western Boulevard and 211 West Eighty- eighth street, which neither the police hor the occupants of the house can explain, Both fires was discovered by the Jan- {tors of the respective buildings before they had a chance to do any damage, and the loss in each case was trifling. The fire which occurred in the cellar of 67 Boulevard was discovered about 8 o'clock last evening. A box filled with old clothing, which had been standing for a long time under the basement stairs, was discovered in a blaze by Michael Butterfield, the janitor. “I had just come up from the cellar," said the janitor this morning, “where I had been at work cleaning up a lot of Fubbish. Ths door opening on the street in the front basement was unlocked, but I did not know of any one who had en- tered the cellar, “It was not ten minutes before I smelled smoke in the house, and, run- ning back into the cellar, 1 found the old box under the stairway in a blaze, How it started Is a mystery. 1 was just in time, however, to put it out be- fore tt spread to the stairway, and no one in the house was alarmed.” Janitor Butterfield said that the only explanation he could give of the origin of the fire was that some one had en- tered the basement from the street and had thrown a lighted match into the box of rubbish which stood in the hail- way. Kennedy and Bumster were’ of the opinion she was suffering from an attack of heart disease. Identity of the Woman Who Died in a Denver Lodging-House. Mrs, Isabella W. Campbell, who was found dead in a cheap lodging-house in Denver, yesterday, was the wife of F. A. Campbell, a lawyer, who occuples desk room in the office of Leo C. Dessar, at 261 Broadway. A despatch received in this city to-day stated that the woman had been mar. ried to Lawyer Campbell since October, 1883, Their wedding, which was cele. brated in Chicago, was quite a fashton- able affair. Two years ago Mrs, Camp- bell went to Colorado for her health, and, while there was, it Is alleged, de- serted by her husband. Lawyer Campbell was seen at his office this morning. After carefully reading the despatch referred to, he said that be celved @ telegram yesterday from his wife's attorney, informing him of her cath.
