THE WORLD: TUESDAY EVE ING, APRIL EEE EEEEnnreneen enn ETS GALLOPS IN THE MUD. Heavy Tracks for Training at Gravesend and Sheepshead, Domino Promises to Live Up to His Two-Year.Old Form. McCarren’s Brother to Blitzen Marked Like « Circus Horse, (Special to The Evening World.) SHEEPSHEAD BAY, April 9—Both the Sheepshead Bay and Gravesend race tracks showed the effect of the heavy Fainstorm of yesterday, A dense fog hung over both tracks until about 10.30 A. M., when the fog lifted slowly and the day became almost as warm as in Midsummer, ‘Trainers wore rewarded for their pa- tlence, and had a grand day for working. ‘There x nothing on earth makes a race- horse so cheerful as does bright sun- shine,-ana they bad plenty of it this morning for a few hours. At Sheepshead Bay Messrs. Littlefleld had their string of, old horses out, and did excellent work through the mud. Commissioner, Bright Phoebus and the Stately Sabilla looked pictures in their work. It would be hard to find a finer trio of three-year-olds in one string. John Evans's Beansey worked in the second set with a beautiful lot of fl- les, the greater part of which are owned by J. Malcolm Forbes, of Boston, owner of the great English race horse Meddler, which was once the property and {dol of the late Squire Abingdon. Among the fillies is a beautiful bay by Barcaldine, and another of the same color by Royal, Hampton, William Lakeland gave _ first-class work to the big Keene string under his care, Domino looked as glossy as a Faven as the sun shone on‘his flanks. The son of Himyar went once around the track at three-quarter speed, and it was a splendid sight to see him come down the front stretch, scattering the mud about. Domino will certainly be a great race horse this year, as he looks in better health than he did, even when he el trified the racing World with his two- year-old fornf. ‘The youngsters dl a strong gallop in Indian file, Taral riding the Tremont- Gypsy colt, lornpipe, Dangerous, the brother. to Freeland, | Bowling. Green and the brother to Reporter had a clinking good gallop over a mile. This is the first time the brother to the erratic Reporter gal- Joped with the quartet mentioned and he showed up in good form. Albert Cooper did excellent work with a big Gee but they were worked in the fog and’ could not be seen over a hundred yard Jim Shields’s Tom Skidmore galloped a mile at @ nice clip. This game horse fs going In good shape now. t Gravesend Frank McCabe was out early with one string of two-year-olds, which were galloped at a two-minute clip, The older horses had the advan- tage of nice weather, and Declare, P: triclan, Monte Carlo and Long Beach seemed to enjoy it, They worked only about the two-minute clip. W. B. Gilpin worked two strings at a good Facing. clip. Tanbgark was given pecial work, and he wil be in prime condition for his match with Nick John- on next Bunday. The match is cre- ating at interest at Gravesend, and there is 4 divided opinion among the trainers as to which will win, ‘Tom Moore, Lord Hawkstone and the rest of the string worked nicely J. V. Elliott gave his Brooklyn Handl- cap candidates clinking hard work. Le onawell’s I!king for the mud is too well known to need describing. The Baroness fs improving with every gallop. Rollin, Mcintyre and the rest of the string did good work. Ex-Senator McCarren's brother to Blltzen, and a bay had a rattling good gallop. There are no two horses in existence more unlike each other than Blitzen and his younger brother. Blit- zen. was a black, while Mr. MeCar- ren'’s youngster ts hestnut, with an all-white head, resembling a Hereford- shire steer, nd his legs and body are deeply covet with white. However, the youngster though the boys at y the circus horse, George Meehan gave Sir Knight and the rest of Mr. Roche's string road work on the Boulevard. ———— > —___ SPORTING MISCELLANY. ‘The Intercollegiate Athletic Association seems Feluctant to connect entirely with the A.
