The City of Seattle has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to build fire stations and police stations and main- tain proper up-to-the-minute appa- ratus for the protection of its citizens. This is fine. But why not do some- thing for the firemen and policemen that they may have the same standard of living and give their children some of the advantages as those of other men who work for the good of Seattle? workers, the policemen, make their final appeal for justice. By the signa- tures of thousands of citizens and tax- payers they are re¢commended for a living wage. They are asking nothing for themselves, but only reasonable protection for their families. Firemen and policemen are under a monthly expense of $18.50 for uniforms and equipment, leaving only $116.50 to $136.50 for the support of a family. The American Government, thru*the Labor Bureau, has established a mini- mum of $2,346 per year as the amount on which a family ean live in health and decency. The firemen and police- men are asking a great deal less. All they seek is a “get-by wage.” “Give Your Firemen and Policemen a Living Wage” (Paid Advortisintig) 2etewe +E i at
