Coal has certain alleged shortcomings which are urged against it. But what product is there, natural or manufactured, of which the same cannot be said? Accepting this as an expert and reliable statement, it is evident that the only equipment of this kind that one would con- sider bringing into his home represents an initial investment of little under a thou- sand dollars.. Except for those who can well afford to experiment, this is an outlay not to be made without careful investigation. Even if we admit the entire honesty of the makers and distributors of the oil-burn- ing devices, their presentation of their proposition cannot be otherwise than col- oved by self-interest. One could not reasonably expect from this source an ad- mission of defects or deficiencies. A fair investigation must look to sources less interested and to facts based upon unassailable authority. Let him ascertain the price which the School Board of Seattle paid for oil a year ago and the prices six months and a year later.
