Should Bone Bill (Initiative No. 52) Be Read, or Should Petitions Be Signed in Blind Ignorance of Its Provisions? ROPONENTS of the Bone bill caused the arrest of two disabled war veterans at the Seattle public market for the alleged crime of asking people to read the so-called Bone “Free Power” bill before signing initiative petitions. These two young men had caused no disturbance, nor had they i in any way interfered with the solicitors for signatures. Red pepper was thrown into the eyes of one of the boys, requiring hospital treatment. The Bone bill advocates are seeking signatures under false pretenses. They fear to have the Bone bill read. WHY? They fear to have the public become familiar with Sections 2 and 4, which will remove millions from the tax rolls. If the Bone bill is just what its advo- cates say it is, why should it not be read by every- body and especially by those who are asked to sup- port this measure? The arrests are significant. Nothing could show more clearly the knowledge of Bone bill advocates that their measure will not stand read- ing by intelligent citizens. All the More Reason Why the Bone bill should be read and thoroughly understood!
