AN OPEN LETTER TO WOMEN Tells of Mrs.Vogel’s Terrible Suf- fering and how she was Restored to Health by Lydia E.Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound Detroit, Michigan,—**My troubles ‘Were severe pains in my back and eras lo bearing: | jown pains in my right side, also headaches and sleepless nights, I first began havin; troubles when AB} Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound. IRA CLARK, chancellor com- mander for) the Knights of Pythias in Washington, arrived in Seattle from Walla Walla Monday morning on lodge business. Cynthia Grey Female of Species Has Same Right to Find Her Niche in Life as Male, Writes Woman in Answer| to “Bill,” Who Accused the Ladies of Usurping| Men's Jobs, BY CYNTHIA GREY Are women usurping men's work to the extent that friend hubby will soon have to remaitat home and do the knitting while wifie goes out and brings in the bacon? This question arose in these columns several days ago in a letter written by a man who signed himself “Bill.” Ina letter received today we have the woman's point of , view, Do you agree with her, or “Bill”? I will be glad to} print interesting letters on this subject, if not too long. Her letter follows: Dear Miss Grey: I notice that “Bill” has been speaking his piece about women doing men’s work, It seems poor Bill can’t get a job, and since modern women are being’ blamed for everything else, he flings his grouch atop the, heap. People who think as this man does are unable to see any) further than the ends of:their noses. Evidently they believe that there are in all the world but a certain number of jobs and when these are snapped up all hope is gone till some of the favored ones pass on and create vacancies. Can they not understand that when a woman changes her occupation from that of housewife to the business world many persons profit by the change? Hotels and restaurants, laundries, domestic employes, delicatessens, clothing stores all realize material gain when the married woman leaves her home, not to mention the many other ways in which money is spent more freely, And those who fancy the wife’s earnings are “velvet” are very much mistaken, for usually no more is accumulated than before the wife entered business. Her services in the home, when rightly performed, have a sizable cash value as many have found who thought to make the change a profitable one. But the real point of the matter is this, Many a woman Is (otally unsuited to domestic labor, while be. ing highly gifted tn some other line Cynthia Grey will receive call- ers on Monday, Wednésday and Friday from 1 to 2 p, m. and on 'trom R.
