ANUARY 4, 1924, BY JOE WILLIAMS RMALLY a golfer is perfectly satintied with him: sel when ho gets Nis full quota of threes in an ole match, The average course offers two three holes on the first nine, and two on the second, with perhaps one or two other holes where a tee shot of uncommon length will come close to the rim of the green, thus making possible an additional three or threes. However, & scores more than four threes during & round, and this a golfer is stepping at high speed when ho ts the record, If any, in this respect we are not qualified to say, Wo witnessed one performance of “threes or no count’ several months back and have an authenticated reoord of another which we are willing to accept as extraordinary golf, if not record breakers, Bob Jones, Atlanta amateur, and present open champion, and Ammet French, an Ohlo professional, were the two young gents who put Messrs, Par and Bogey to utter rout. French scored threes on nine of the 18 holes; Jones THE SEATTLE STAR Shooting Threes Is Soft Golf Snap for Jones and French .’. you dissent, go out some day and try to score nine threes on the first nine holes at your course, French, teamed with another Ohlo pro, was playing in & hest ball match against Walter Hagen and Joe Kirkwood over a new course at Madison, Ohio, The course is 6,300 yards long, and a stiff enough test of wolf for anybody. French scored successive birdie threes at the first, third and fourth holes, The seventh and ninth are par three holes and he got his threes there, giving him five for the first nine, The 10th in « par five hole and he scored it in three, an eagle, A round, Jones’ performance is more than m year old, It was recorded over the Hast Lake course in Atlanta in a friendly foursome, Hvery putt was holed and every teo shot played from the back tees, This gave the course @ championship distance of more than 6,600 yards, Jono started with 3-2, beating par at each hole by a stroke, At the sixth and elghth holes he scored par threes, This gave him four holes in threes or better then a startling finjsh, three threes in a row, birdies at the 16th and 17th and even par at the home hole. This constitutes a record for Jones, elght threes and a two during one round, and {f it’s a record for him, it comes close to being a record for the world. Jones’ score for the round, incidentally, was 62, nine better than par, French was not so spectacular in this respect. His score for the round was 68, four better than par. An astonishing feature in connection with French's spurt is that he was able to sqore as low as went him one better with elght threes and a two, It birdie three at the 12th, @ par three at the Ifth and at the turn. He scored a par three at the 11th and a he did, for his card also showed @ profusion of fives, _goes for the stars as wall as the duffers. Just what strikes us that this is particularly brilliant golf. If another at the 1th gave him a total of nine for tho Dirdio three at the 12th, Nei eathing spell and no fewer than six, to be exact. - . es * % & * * & * » » & s+ & & - & & e & & S & & HARRY WILLS ISN'T RECEIVING A SQUARE DEAL IN MANHATTAN Baseball —_\(Gridders Star | Net Scribes Raw Deal Field Is |. .onBallTeam||_ Amateur Puck Star \"y71,5¢ Quit for Dusky Growing se ok States Body Ring Star |Few Raises Are Ex pected to N.Y.
