BY CYNTHIA GREY “T've never had a chance to be anything—” You've heard some person make that remark, perhaps a number, I hgar it often, Just the other day one of my callers told it to me. “We have no power of choice in our lives,” she said, “Our money or talent.” In one way, this is true—in another, it isn’t. There is al- ways some power of choice. Only we do not use it. We may have to go out to work each morning when we of choice would stay in our homes. But we don’t have to rebel or groan over it. We may be bound down at home when we would go abroad, But we don't have to repine or make our- selves miserable about it. There are good times right where we are; if we set about to find them, we will succeed. " We may not have the talent of an Edison, a Caruso or @ Kreisler, But isn’t it a blessing we have not? Else what a world of terrific wonders we should live in! What a general caroling there would be—how tired we should become of | the music which would by its very commonness cause ennui! | But we each have talent of some kind. It may be for} just as there is exquisite pleasure for the inventor or artist in the exercise of his. We CAN choose our attitude toward life. We can decide whether we shall be dissatisfied or happy with what we have, busy or indolent, critical or tolerant, sarcastic or kind. We can choose associates and friends, surroundings to some extent, disposal of our leisure time, When we have ex-| hausted all these powers of choice, then, and only then, is it time for us to look further afield. Why not first use the power of choice we already have? see Dear Miss Grey: Do you think that “Cyclone” had the misfortune to break her arm while patting herself on the back for her cour- age in expressing her very bril- Nant (?) and sensible (7?) thoughts) regarding the modern female of the species? pounds—at least that much—direct- ly after writing sald epistle—due to mirth at her wonderful (7) wit.
