THE SEATTLE STAR aa Speed God’s Messengers! Tus morning, at the stroke of nine, 3,600 faithful, earn- est, self-sacrificing men and women started forth on an errand of mercy. They will come to your door and mine seeking aid in carrying forward the welfare work of the community. Every man and woman in this large army of mercy is a volunteer, giving freely of their time, work- ing all day and most of the night for a whole week, be- sides giving generously of their own means, to a cause worthy of your whole-hearted support and mine. Every minute of their time is precious; their every step is measured. Only through your prompt action can their huge task be finished in the time limit set. Let not petty prejudices or slight differences of opinion rob us of the joy of giving! Take the broad view, bear- ing in mind that the very existence of your favorite wel- fare organization is wholly dependent upon its allotted proportion of each dollar contributed to the common fund. So please meet these heralds of the Community Fund in the same kindly spirit that prompts them to call upon you. Greet them with a smile and warm welcome. Respond to the first call and you will have lightened their burden, will have helped two-fold. The Badge of Honor this week will be a little blue and white button that reads: “I Have Given!” Pin one next your heart—let it be emblematic of your interest in those less fortunate.
