Desmond was named receiver on application of the First National Dank. The bank holds a note and Mortgage against the assets of the company for $8,500, of which $2,875 has been paid. The late Chauncey Wright, founder and former owner of the restaurants, was known thruout the/| entire country for the excellence| of his cuisine. Starting as a pion. eer restaurant man, he developed Tis business until there was a chain of six restaurants and beker fes thruout the city. At the hetght of his prosperity he died, leaving his business largely im the hands of Hazen J. Titus, a former dining car superintendent on the Northern Pacific railway. Titus! exploited the business and It de Yeloped rapidly, severat additional Testaurants and. bakeries being} added under his management. These failed to prosper and Titus finally attempted to recuperate his finances by opening a fruit cake business in California. This, too, failed. Titus is now located tn Cal- Mornia. The widow of the former res taurant king married a few years after the death of her husband. Out of the string of restaurants she re- tained: ownership and control only of one, the 1. C. Smith Bullding Testaurant. Recently she sued her husband, Samuel W. Johnston, for divorce, alleging drunker desertion.
