CLEANERS’ WAR REPORTED HERE Dyer Says ‘He Refused to Join Combine A price-fixing war between small tailors and an alleged dyers and cleaners’ combine which ts now said to be im operation tn Seattle, will be brought to an end in another world, | according to L. Kline, tailor, at 905 Madison st., Friday. “These combine fellows are at | tempting to set the price which we small ‘fellers’ shall charge for our cleaning work,” said Kline Friday. “We do not wish to make a price as high as the trust wants. Now they will not take our work because we won't join the combine and there you are. “Last week they told me to join ‘em, but I said I'd see 'em in h—l first, and now I'm stuck. Can you beat that?” Kline is not alone in his prodica- ment, he asserts. Many of his brothers in the tailoring business whose nationality sometimes runs to the price-cutting, are in the same boat. They refuse to turn out women’s sults for 75 cents and men's for 50 cents, and as a conse- quence they are out of luck, Kline says. The independent cleaners charge less, Kline asserts, “What can we do?” asked Kline “I went to see the prosecuting at- torney yesterdsy and he said he'd write ‘em a letter, but I don’t know what good that'll do. See these pants and coats? They should be cleaned and pressed but they ain't goin’ to be because I won't charge what these trust fellows want me to.”* Kline had not mapped out any plan of action Friday for fighting the combine and stated that he was at a loss to know what to do. In the meantime those pants and coats are remaining unpressed and un- cleaned and Kline is waiting to see the leaders of the combine In anoth er Libba als Unable to Locate , Racers With Death The police admitted Friday that |they had been unable to locate the two principals who are racing death | in an auto from Bend, Ore., to Ham- | mond, B.
