TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 1923. “Yet, The Earth Does Move!” So declared Galileo as he arose from his knees. | Imprisoned and forced to retract his teachings that the earth and not the sun moved, the inventor of the telescope was sadly weakened in body, still so strong in spirit—legend tells us—that he continued to declare the truth even while being forced to deny it. This was three hundred years ago. Galileo was fighting ignorance and prejudice. People of his day declared if it were true that the earth moved, inhabitants would all fall off when the earth turned upside- down.
