Olsen was owner and engineer of the fishing schooner Washington, which was wrecked in Yakataga bay November 11, and Larson was a member of the crew. All seven of the men aboard the schooner reached the shore in safety, and managed to salvage a quantity of food from the wreck. But they were afraid that they would have to stay all winter, and they put themselves on a severe ration of a meal a day.
