H. I, Chatterton, who ob. served the incident, became high- ly excited, and fairly danced in an effort to look at the bottle, When he finally saw it his excite. ment faded, It was @ bottle of moonshine, all right, but it Is a brand of pop, colored red, and which bears the trade name of “moonshine” on the label, NAL FINANCIAL REVIEW od 1d water diate loan 40 Gerinany, and Judge Gary's » considering an ext at 106% 4%, off %) F t %; Retail Stores 68%, oft %. Before entering the fury room | Mayor Brown said he would be glad to believe that the ministers who have attacked his administration from their pulpits were honest in their statements that they were do- ing so to eliminate vice from the city. “I am sorry to say that I do not believe that was their intention. T have proof in my hand that I will submit to the grand jury this morn- ing that the whole anti-vice cam- paign is an attack on me personally,” he declared. “When the Rev. Hawkins made his violent attack on me from his pulpit on December 3, he read my letter in which I thanked him for information given me regarding al- leged- vice conditions. I told him I would gladly investigate the places mentioned in his lst. “The ministers of Seattle as a whole are not with Rev. Hawkins in his campaign of slander,” said the mayor, “Hawkins represents those who would obtain publicity thru an attack on me. I will go thru with | you will see that Doc Brown is as jearnest and as tireless in his ef- forts to eliminate vice in all its forms from this city as these min- isters are.” he declared. Rey. H. 1. He asked Patterson's advice as to the advis- ability of turning in new evidence that he obtained since he was called before the grand jury last week. | When asked if he thought any investigation, Rev., Chatterton an- |swered, “Yes, some good has al ready developed.” “Do you expect a change in Dr. Brown's attitude?” he was asked. ‘Anything is pow sible with God,” was his reply. | The Rev. Mr. Chatterton lenat the clergy are pressing their investigations every day and that they mean to go thru with the present campaign against vice. “We are not afraid of those against us,” he said. The grand jury has now been in- | vestigating vice conditions in Seattle | for eight days, and has examined only about 12 witnesses, If the jury calls all listed by Mayor Brown, the | investigation will run well into the | new year. | Mayor Brown's list includes Police | Judge John B, Gordon, James Fra- | zer, of the Lodge cafe; United States District Attorney Thomas P.
