D. Q. If you have had to make your way along First Avenue very much the last six months you have probably said some thing that would have sounded like swear words—if -you weren't such a good church member. If you tried to navi- gate in your Lizzie— well, worse. But did you ever stop and think what that street blockade meant to the merchants on the street? Oh, boy, ask some banker—some one who has a lot of First Avenue clients. Take the Red Front Clothing Company, for instance, for they are the subject of this dis- course—that big store at the corner of First and Pine. Maybe you think that paving delay hasn’t been a knockout for them! Again, ask their banker. Six months ago all was rosy— sure re-pavement was coming, but it would be over in two months—just right for fine business in September and October. But September first found a blockade of trench workers with Big Berthas pounding away in the street. People couldn’t shout loud enough to the clerks, even after they did mountaineer stunts to get in. So that’s the meat of the tale. The Red Front ordered—oh, yes, they or dered their heads off—for fall trade, but it came not—the trench diggers kept the trade away. And now the banker says, “Better raise a little ready cash,” and the wholesalers are wiring for their money. Lots of folks who have never been in the Red Front are going to make their first visit tomorrow. They can’t help it. They would climb over brick walls to get there, for bargains, bar- gains await the wise buyer. Some $60,000 worth of merchandise goes to the public at prices that will set new low price marks in Seattle. Here is one lot of Men’s Suits, good materials, well made; mostly small sizes—but the price is small, too— $7.85. It would be a small man, in- deed, who wouldn't pay that for a good suit. Told you you would have to come. Here’s another suit life-saver. Over 200 Men’s Suits, many all-wool fabrics included. Look at them. See if you don’t think some of them are worth $20 at least. Then take your choice for $9.85. Yes, $9.85 is right. But maybe you are a high-toned fellow— want something swell. Well, glance at this: Men’s high-grade wool worsted Suits for $13.85. If you know where to get anything to compare with these suits at this price tell the world. Most men folks have coats and vests almost as good as new, but the hole in the seat of the pants don’t look just right on Sunday. Grab one of these pants, in nice neat stripe pattern, for $2.39. If you can get pants like these anywhere else for less than $4 you're lucky. Then there are some dandy heavy weight Corduroy Pants, fine for work or outdoor sports. They look like $5, but the tag says $2.98. Wouldn’t expect to get a good Boys’ Suit for as low as $3.85 now, would you? You tell us if you think they are worth $6.
