Employment is still of- Machinists Blacksmiths Electrical Workers : Carpenters at wages and working conditions prescribed by the United States Railway Labor Board, effective July 1, 1922. Rates for journeymen and leading men range from 63 to 82 cents per hour, and for helpers 47 cents per hour, with time and one-half after eight hours and for Sun- days and holidays. Applicants who are not mechanics will be given employment and will be trained in all branches of the trades. Seniority and pension rights of new employes will date from time of entering peadig Former employes may return to work, if their placeg have not already been filled, and so many of the former employes as return to work promptly will be allowed a record of continuous service for seniority and pension rights, KEEP IN MIND The men who left the service have no grievance against the Railway Com- pany. The wages effective July 1st, 1922, were fixed by the United States Railway Labor Board, the same board which in 1920 increased the wages to the highest point ever reached in the United States. Boilermakers Sheet Metal Workers Car Repairmen e oa eel The orderly way to negotiate wages and working conditions is for the employes to deal with the officials of their respective companies, and, failing to agree, refer the dispute to the Labor Board. It is easy for men, working for the railway com- pany to have their conditions considered, but in order to have such consideration they must be railway employes. THE UNITED STATES LABOR BOARD directs that all men taking the place of strikers are to understand they will not be considered strike-breakers and will be protected in their positions and considered as doing a public good. _ VETERAN'S ADVICE - The following letter has been sent by the Great Northern Veterans’ Associa- tion to its members in connection with the present strike: “As a member of the Veterans’ Association and the years worked necessary to become a member, can you afford to permit your twenty-five years or more, as the case may be, to be wiped out automatically by your failure to report for duty at once? Have you considered the fact that the minimum pension of $25.00 per month equals an investment of $5,000.00 at 6 per cent, a $50.00 pension equals 6 per cent on $10,000.00? By permitting your twenty-five years’ accrued time to be wiped out you are sacrificing an income from $5,000.00 or more, as your personal case may be. Can you afford to do so? Can your family afford to have you do so? “It is admitted everywhere that OUR COMPANY has been more than fair in its dealings with the employes and this strike is not against this railroad, but against a decision of the Government Labor Board. Therefore, we are suffering when we have no true complaint. f “This is an important question and should be given your most earnest consider- ation and decided in the interest of yourself and family. Think it over, brother; make sure you make no mistake in your decision. “Fraternally yours, eT (Signed) “WM. J. McMILLAN, “President Veterans’ Association.” a!
