Interesting Mural Decorations Here Norway hall in Seattle has an in teresting series of mural. decorations in panels of medium size, made to harmonize with t architectural style of the hall hey are built on historical and mythological mo- tives conventionalized in the manner of the old Scandinavian tapestries and are published by the Norwegian Alliance of Christiania, Norway The artist is Yngvar Sonnichsen, born in Christiania. Mr. Sonnichsen is a graduate civil engineer of the Polytechnical Insti tute of Christiania and a former student in art at the municipal school of art and crafts Later he pursued his art studies at the royal academies of Antwerp and Brussels, Belgium, finally spend ing a year at the Academie Julien in Paria, William Bourguereau and Benjamin Constant were among his teachers, From 1900 to 1904 Mr. Sonnichsen painted portraits in Norway and at the Cultural Historical, Exhibition in Christiania in 1902 he made about 100 designs of old Norwegian gold and silverware, which are now at the public library in Trond: heim. of the Board of Fine Artists’ club. In 1904 he went to St Brunswick, Canada, as painter. He also designed windows for churches there and won several prizes, Since 1968 Mr. Sonnischen has been a resident of Seattle with a studio in the Holyoke building, 111 Spring st. Last year he won an honorable mention at the North west’ artists’ exhibition for an Alaska watercolor, For two sea- sons, Southeast Alaska has been a special source of interest to the artist.
