THE SEATTLE STAR YANKEES TAKE LEAD; PIRATES LOSE GROUND, NEW YORK, Aug. 11.—Winning from the Chicago White Sox here yesterday while the Cleveland Indians were taking a licking from the Philadelphia Athletics, the New York Yankees went into first place in the race for the American league flag by half a game, leading the Indians by one point in the percentage column. The race in the junior major is now a grim fight between the Yanks and Indians as Washington, in third place, is nine full games behind. Pittsburg lost a half a game in the National Wednesday, losing to Brooklyn while New York was idle. The Pirates hold a two and one-half game lead over the Giants. The Boston Braves, four games behind New York, are conceded a fine chance of finishing in the first money yet.
