LASSEN Two Lincoln cagers, two Queen Anne hoopers and one Broadway man make up The * 1921 AlbCity team for the prep basketball season The big star of the se son was Jesse Douglas, the great center of the Queen Anne team. Douglas played a wonderful floor game, } was a great shot, and he also played & good passing game without “hog ging” the ball, He had the prettiost pivot of any player that has per formed in the local prep league for | seasons. Douglas was playing out} of position al! season when he was stationed at center, as he is a na forwari, but because of t of bie men at the hill school he | had | to play center, and did a wonderfu! | Jod of it | There was a wealth of good centers fm the league this season. Just a Shade behind Dou in allaround ability was Johnny Cole, the big cap tain of the Franklin team. Cole was @ good shot, too, and he waa the pivot of the Franklin team thruout the season. He was just a bit slower | than Douglas and had a tendency to} be clumsy times because of his big size. But all in ail, Cole played some brilliant basketball for the Quakers. Bruce Hesketh of Lincoln, and Nelson of Ballard, played good Ball, but not the caliber of the men picked. PLENTY OF GOOD FORWARDS Picking the forwards for the sea. De te a mighty hard job, because the forward men were more evenly matched than in previous seasons. Spencer Harris, the Broadway cap tain, didn’t play the same brand of basketball during the season just closed that he did last year, but thiv year he was checked harder than any other man in the league, and he was playing with an inferior team, as | Broadway had one of the weakest | teams that ever represented the Pine | st. institution. But Harris played a! fine floor game all year, and while hig shooting wasn't anything to brag about, he ranked as one of the best men in the league. Captain Bill Nollan, of the Lincoln team, would make fine running mate for Harris. He is a big fellow and made good use of his heighth He was one of the best scorers in the Prep league. and played a good floor game thruout the season. But his floor game Wasn't quite up to the caliber net by the other two forwards. Carmody some and he Made particularly good use of his mpeed. He was one of the fastest men in the league OTHER FORWARDS Of the other forwards not picked Shew, of Ballard, with his spectacu lar long shots; Trumbull and Hasiem of Queen Anne, and Baasford of Lin- coin, played sweet basketball at times, but game in and game out they didn’t rank with the four men already picked. Bil Savage, the Lincoln guard, didn’t play in all of the games this year, and he was handicapped by Mness and injury, but when he did play his experience counted him in good stead. Savage didn't play the fame that he did a year ago, bi while he was in there he still ranked & bit better than any other guard in the league, in our opinion. Savage is strictly a standing guard, and with his experience he steadied the Lincoin team when he was in the game, and be was 4 bulwark on the defense. at running guard, would make a good feam mate for Savage. Max Pretty fast and played a good brand @f the game, considering the fact that it was his first year in interscholastic league. Tanzer played running guard thruout the year, and he scored a lot of points for the hill ‘ team on long shots. { He cage!
