Se ee are demanding better housing facill- Issue of Apartment Bonds; Special Session of N. Y. Legislature Called ‘That capital in large amounts ts Available for increasing the nation’s housing facilities, under proper con-| ditions, is indicated by an announce ment made by 8. W. Straus & Co. that they have just underwritten a first mortgage 6 per cent amortized Serial bond issue of $1,000,000 on a new apartment house to be built at ence in Buffalo, N. Y. This announcement ts looked upon with particular interest just at this time, as it follows closely the call for & special session of the New York legisiature in September to consider Methods of relieving the housir shortage. DEVOTED TO SMALL QUARTERS 1t is interesting to note that the new Buffalo building, which will con tain 180 apartments with 442 rooms, Will be devoted exclusively to smal! apartments at moderate rentals, It t estimated that the new building will furnish living accommodations for 600 persons. The apartments will be arranged in suites of two, three and four rooms each. In making announcement of the/ Buffalo operation, S. W. Straus & Co.) may: “The nation at this time faces a Very serious housing crisis. For a number of reasons the supply of! homes tn this country has been stead. fly growing lees during the past four years. In this period there has been an almost uniform increase of all Duilding costs, It has been the view and policy of this house that every. thing possible should be done to tn- crease the nation’s housing facilities: Decause it is realized that a Inck of homes fosters social unrest and con- stitutes a disturbing factor in the country’s economic life. “It has been the attitude of this house that in the face of this unpre | cedented building shortage in all/ parts of the country, there must be a freat amount of building done dur. Ing the period covering a number of years to come; that the standard of living is advancing; that the people ties and that, from the builder's standpoint, nothing is to be gained/ dy withholding building projects.” ‘The new Buffalo butiding will be tn one of the best residential sections ef the city and will contain every Modern improvement, Including spa- cious sun parlors adjoining each apartment. | Public Markets | WESTLAKE Susar Stall.
