Hunt Drives |} Washington Squad Hard Big Turkey Day Game Is but Week Off; Wick and ‘ Grimm Out With the California game a week way, Coach Hunt is driving his Washington eleven at top speed. The gerubs, using California plays and formations, are giving the var#ity a chance to break up the plays that will be featured by the southerners in their offense In the game with W. 8. C. Call fornia’s line was ripped up by the Cougars for good gains. Both teams Tesorted largely to the old style game with a few passes mixed in between. Judging from the game that the purple and gold played against Pullman, Coach Smith's line Will have to be in tip-top condition to offset the battering they will get. Bill Grimm and “Sandy” Wick, both mentioned for all-coast posi tions, will be in the Turkey day line up for Washington. It will be the first time that Coach Hunt will have his regular team on the gridiron for @ conference game. George Smith and Ted Faulk will have their hands full in watching the California backs. If California elects to use end runs and passes in stead of hitting the line, Smith and Faulk will have to be on the job all the time. Bill Grimm and Zeke Clark at tackle will prove stum- bling block to any team. Clark is improving with every game and ‘Thanksgiving should find him in fine fettle. ‘The center of the line, with Blake and Pope for guards and Wick for center, form a defensive trio that is hard to beat. Wick is one of the best centers on the coast, both on the offensive and defensive. He has an uncanny way of breaking up the opponent's plays bfore they are un- der way. Butler ts the only one in the back- field who 1s suffering from minor injuries. A couple of days’ rest should put him in his old-time con- dition. Dailey’s knees are still weak from early-season injuries. California’s game with Stanfora Saturday will be watched with in- terest by all followers of inter-col- legiate football. Both schools love each other like & cat and bulldog. For a time it looked as if athletic relations between the two schools! would be severed. The differences were patched up and the two squads meet Saturday, with California the favorite.
