Giant Boss will just about have the pennant for 1919 in the senior league cinched. The Moran corps stepped on the Giants twice yesterday, and while they beat -———— them by the slim margin of one run in both games, one run is as good as a million when it is one more than the other fellow has at the end of the | game. One of the odd features of yesterday's double bill was the fact that Cincinnati's duet of crack southpaws, Reuther and Sallee, beat Art Nehf | and Phil Douglas, the big heavers secured by the Giants to bolster up their pitching staff. The Giants have been severely criticized for their appar- ent efforts to buy a pennant. Fans thruout the country today are laying their money on the Reds to win the National league rag, in spite of the perpetual jinx that seems to hover o ver their pennant chances year in and year out. Cincinnati has never won a pennant in the National league, and it would be the best thing in the world for baseball if the Reds cross the wire ahead of the Giants. Pat Moran, the doughty Irishman, who is leading the Reds this year, is another Miracle Man. Canned by Philadelphia, after putting the Quakers on the baseball map, he has whipped a pennant team out of the Reds, who weren't considered first division possibilities at the start of the year. Local fans are pulling for the Reds to } win. “Dutch” Reuther, the crack southpaw, who is a graduate of the Northwestern league, won the first big game of the crucial series yesterday, | and may hurl another tilt. of the series before the vital games are history. ———— — Seeeeeee \ H ugeT hrong I Here’s Quartet of Reds’ Heavy Artillery oe Tigers Spank Expected to" Zz na Seattle Crew Flood Field Qe agenem= MMe BOS in First Mix Giants and ‘Reds Ready for | Dell’s Hurling and Meusel’s Second Double Bill in | | Fight for Flag | Bat Bring Win to the Essick Tribe | Ban He i es iliac “————. = THow Co at ib N.
