LASS Will Young Hector be able to continue his winning streak by the one-punch method when he runs up against Ole Anderson, the Tacoma heavyweight, at the Arena tonight? This is the question that will be settled when the two big fellows step into the ring at the Northwest show. Hee- tor will have a chance to show some speed tonight. During the past season Hector has been credited with | knockout wins over K. O. King, “Soldier” Sawyer, Harry Williams and Steve Reynolds. He fought a draw with An- derson in Tacoma a short time ago and won a verdict over Frank Kendall of Portland. Hector’s four knockout wins were not over very classy formers, in fact, with the exception of the Williams it, Hector was fighting men who weighed around the 175 id mark. While Williams is a big fellow he never has in Hector’s class. Hector didn't knock out Anderson, or Kendall. M,C. A., is fall of good ideas thee days. With the winter sport season looming in the future “Doe” is planning a eity commercial whet ball league with the teams representing local business houses. For the benefit of the advertising the big business firms of the city will be asked to outfit the different teams, “Doe” plans to have the games staged in the high school gymnasiums. The school board may balk at having the games staged in the gymnasiums, but Wells is making a campaign to convinee the school directors that the plan is a good boost for the sport. It is. There is no doubt that organized sport is the best boost for any game in the world as long as that organization is kept clean, = * That the city high schools should be allowed to compete with outside athictic squads is also backed up by Wells, who has been connected with school athieties for many years, Wells was for merly coach at one of the Portland high schools. “Doc” declares that the blegest boost for school sport in Seattle would be a cham plonship game in every branch of sport to be played by the win ners of the Seattle and Portland interschotastic leagues, with the tithe football match being played on Thanksgiving in each city on alternating years, and the title games in the other branches of sport at the ends of their respective seasons, Tam with “Doe” in this plan, as it is my conviction that outside competition would be a big boost for school sports and sports are the life of school spirit. It's up to the school board to take this plan under consid. eration before the new schedules ore made, because school ath. leties have been too cramped during the past several years for a city of Seattle size, In fact, restriction of outside competition is ridiculous, providing the players and school reoters do not abuse the privilege. Now comes Nate Druximan, Elks’ fight promoter, with a tale that Jack Kearns, manager of Jack Dempsey, world’s ring king, used to drive a hack for the Seattle Transfer company in 1909, the year of the AJY.P. fair here when Nate was managing the company. You never can tell, opportunity may make a presi dent out of your boneheaded office boy some day. Funny life, this, When Nate came to the plate with this announcement Dan Salt, he of the silver vores! cords, let the world know that just two years ago dack Dempsey himself worked out in Austin & Salt's gymnast logking for a ring match, without the price of coffee and doughnuts.
