THE SEATTLE STAR—TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 1919. PAID ADVERTISEMENT KELL N. D. T. FRANCHISE A Vote for Proposition “A” is a Vote for Foreign Insurance Domination and Higher Insurance Rates The fight for Proposition “A” is a fight of the stock fire insurance company interests, with headquarters in San Francisco, against the Northwestern Mutual Fire Association and the allied companies in its office. These mutual companies have been a strong factor in compelling lower insurance rates than existed when the mutual companies entered Seattle. In many cases rates are only half what they were when these mutuals entered the field. The lowering of insurance rates lowers the income of all fire insurance agents proportion- ately. Not only are the agents affected by the lowering of insurance rates due to the mutuals, but ; THE STOCK COMPANY AGENTS DO NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT THE NORTH- WESTERN MUTUAL AND ITS ALLIED COM- PANIES IN THIS OFFICE ARE RETURNING THEIR POLICYHOLDERS OVER $6,000 A DAY IN CASH DIVIDENDS AND SAVINGS. THRICE KILLED BEFORE Proposition “A” is practically the same fran- chise as has been killed in Seattle on three other occasions, except in former efforts the com- pany offered Seattle five per cent of the money it should take from Seattle citizens, while now it only offers to return two per cent. On these three former occasions insurance agents strongly favored the efficient service of the Instantaneous Alarm Co., as against the in- ferior service of the N. D. T. WHY THIS CHANGE OF HEART ON THE PART OF MANY OF THE JNSURANCE AGENTS OF SEATTLE? Simply because the President of the North- western Mutual Fire Association and General Agent for practically all of the strong Eastern Mutuals doing business on the Pacific Coast, re- cently became president of the Instantaneous Alarm Co. A FEW FACTS The Seattle Insurance Exchange and Seat- tle insurance agents have nothing to do with making insurance rates for the San Francisco stock fire insurance offices dominating the stock fire insurance business of Seattle. The N. D. T. can obtain no more reduction for its appliances in Seattle than it is obtaining in other cities, which in no case is greater than that allowed for the Instantaneous Alarm serv- ice in the city of Seattle. NO LOWER RATES These professional franchise grabbers for the N. D. T. who are now in Seattle from San Francisco and Chicago know they can furnish no lower rates than the Instantaneous Alarm Company. No citizen need be deceived into thinking that property owners are going to obtain lower rates for alarm service through the N. D. T. be- cause in cities where that company has driven out competition it is charging a very much high- er rate than the present rate charged by the In- stantaneous Alarm Co. wed The president of the Seattle Fire Insurance Exchange has openly said that they would kill the Instantaneous Alarm Co. because it was headed by a mutual man. eg N. D. T. professionl franchise grabbers have said in their advertisements that their system would. mean lower insurance rates, but in no city in the United States are they obtaining any larger reductions in insurance rates for their appliance than the Instantaneous is obtaining in Seattle. The people generally recognize that our mutual companies are the ones truly interested in the reduction of fire waste. Our companies do not profit by high rates as all excess is re- turned to the policyholders by way of cash divi- dends. The State Insurance Commissioner and Fire Marshal Fishback, and also Henry Suzzal- lo, President of the State University and head of the State Council of Defense, will testify that this office has been doing more to prevent fire waste in the State of Washington than all other insurance offices combined. E STRONGLY URGE THAT ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN GOOD FIRE PRO- TECTION AND LOW INSURANCE COST VOTE AGAINST PROPOSITION “A.” Northwestern Mutual Fire Association Central Bldg. F. J.
