THE SEATTLE STAR—WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1918, ‘Men, Money and Guns Will Surely Bring Hell to the Huns” “Make this next Liberty Loan so big and overwhelming that the Huns will know that you are with us body and soul,” writes a Seattle boy from France. Read Carroll Gilger’s message to the folks at home and then ask your conscience, “Am I loyal to my country’s flag?” xkkk “Be sure the war is not over yet,” writes Carroll Gilger, “much as I’d love to realize it. Don’t be too optimistic and let down, thinking the Huns are licked. Nothing but peace won on the battlefield can satisfy. “I firmly believe we are up against a collapsing Hun nation, but it won‘t utterly collapse without terrific battering-ram blows from the allies. Those blows take men, of that I’m certain, but when I see the maimed, bruised, bleeding bodies of magnificent men; when here, in the valley of the shadow, life goes out seemingly so often that one cannot count the frightful cost, I say within my heart, ‘Not in vain, oh, God, not in vain!’ “So, mother, dear, and dad, too, tell them to come and keep coming until the land of the Huns shall feel and see war’s horrors, and this ugly viper forever be wiped out. One thing more—make this next Liberty Loan so big and overwhelming that the Huns will know you are with us body and soul. “Men, money and guns will surely bring hell to the Huns.” cee ssa kkk How is it with you?
