PEOPLE DO NOT LEAVE SEATTLE IF THEY CAN POSSIBLY STAY! Don’t hesitate about such a good business proposition as building a house. Thousands of families are now looking for homes, or are on their way to Seattle to rent or buy. There is such a demand for houses that the 5,000 mark is only a minimum for this winter's needs. Houses, apartments, hotels, living quar- ters of all kinds are crowded to capacity, and the situation is growing worse every day. Are all these people going to stay? To answer this, let us ask another question: Did you ever know people to leave Seattle when they could stay? Haven't scores of your acquaint- ances and friends come to Seattle, originally intending be here temporarily—and aren't they here yet, mighty glad to stay? Yet property values are so attractive that you can build right now at scarcely any greater cost, taking house and lot together, than a few years ago. If you have the ground it’s the right time to build a house and turn the vacant lot into money—or make it pay you a revenue in rent. So many good things are in store for Seattle after the war is over that to build a house and keep it will be one of the best investments you ever made—years and years ahead. The intelligent, far-sighted governments waging war for Freedom and Liberty have wonderful plans for “recon- struction” after the war. Like a fine, well-oiled automo- bile changing to a higher gear, the transition will be so and smooth the “passengers” will hardly know it aking place. is In this particular, Seattle is more fortunately situated than perhaps any other city in America. Her sun is just rising! Seattle can’t be held back! Make up your mind right now to build all the houses you can—one, five, a dozen. Then get in touch with our organization, and see in how many ways we can be of useful assistance to you—advising you about the site, type of house, architecture, building materials, and even arranging with contractors of standing so your house may be built with many others at quantity prices, with or- ganized efficiency. Seattle must have those 5,000 more homes; mil- lions in contracts depend upon it. All America is watching Seattle! MORE HOMES BUREAU Seattle Chamber of Commerce and Commercial Club. A Sacred Duty —to— ‘OUR BOYS OVER THERE”’ Uncle Sam is calling on every American to assist in put- ting all the man power possible into one gigantic effort in the building of ships to supply our Army and Navy with the munitions, food and clothes necessary to keep them 100 per cent efficient; we are, therefore, going to do everything in our power to help our Uncle Sam save the lives of our boys “over there” by making this sacrifice necessary to WIN THE WAR. Uncle Sam asks of us to reduce the man power at work in our business to its minimum, and we feel to hesitate to comply with his request would be showing evidence of dis- loyalty ; therefore, we make this ANNOUNCEMENT: Beginning September 10th, we will replace our men waiters (under'the age of 45 years) with Women Waitresses. WE WILL CLOSE OUR RESTAURANTS EVERY NIGHT AT ONE O'CLOCK, except our Restaurant at 1418-1422 Third Avenue, which we will keep open on SAT- URDAY NIGHT ONLY, for the accommodation of the Soldiers and Sailors. In making this change, we wish to thank our waiters for their efficient co-operation in the past, and that our regret caused by losing their services would be tremendous were it not that we know that they, like all other Americans, cheer- tully wish to help Uncle Sam WIN THE WAR. Respectfully yours, HAZEN J. TITUS, President, CHAUNCEY WRIGHT RESTAURANTS CO. 42-Story L. C. Smith Bldg. 1418-22 Third Ave. 110 Occidental Ave. 1209-11 Second Ave.
