They are practically the same prices that prevailed in the Fall of 1916 — because our buying and manufactur- ing resources kept prices down to where they normal- ly belong. It’s not the “other fellow’s” business; it is YOUR business; YOU stand to profit most. Now’s the chance of years to convert that vacant lot into money; a house will do it. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime to get a permanent home; to establish yourself on a firm foundation as a Property owner and a citizen. It may be many years and it may be never again that you can build a house on the same favorable basis as now. The lumber is here, workmen are coming to Seattle from all over the United States; big contracts and wholesale building operations made possible by the More Homes Bureau insure you savings of perhaps 25 per cent. Don’t think that labor costs will come down later. Did the country ever go back to the 50-cents-a-day wages that prevailed before the Civil War? ‘And don’t think that Seattle in calling for 5,000 more homes is facing only a temporary shortage in housing. Seattle is so favorably situated for shipbuilding, and has developed such efficiency in her shipyards, that we can build ships for twenty years to come cheaper than the seafaring nations of Europe can build them. Steel mills and scores of other industries and com- mercial developments await only the coming of peace to give Seattle such an expansion as will make the after-the-war period a time of tremendous, permanent activity. No, inded, the people who are coming to Seattle are coming to stay; more and more are coming. Those 5,000 houses won’t be half enough. Every day the throng of interested visitors at the More Homes Bureau offices is increasing. Hundreds of people are conferring with the Sites Department, getting advice on building locations; they are talking with the Building Counsel Department regarding the general style of houses adapted to certain sites, and with the Architectural Department on plans of houses most liveable and most ready of sale. In the Building Materials Department they are getting prices, sources of supply, etc., and are finding out about labor in the proper division of our organiza- tion. A Finance Department gives advice as to the amount of money probably obtainable, and where. Seattle is taking hold of the More Homes move- ment with characteristic vigor.
