Seattle Citizens Responding Splendidly to Call of Shipyards and War Industries, but It’s only the Beginning EATTLE citizens who are volunteering for work in the shipyards are setting an example to all America. The “Seattle Plan” for hastily recruiting man-power to meet the emergency is being laid before every state in the Union. Already hundreds of business and professional men, ministers, merchants, brokers and retired capitalists have enrolled to do their share in building ships and aiding other war industries. But more men are needed. Lack of “bolter-ups” in the big shipyards is actually delaying the work of skilled mechanics. The hundreds who have responded represent only a fraction of the unskilled workmen vitally es- sential to Seattle’s war work. If you can arrange your private affairs, and are physically able to work an eight-hour shift, you . can do your country a real service in this hour of need by j joining the thirty to forty thousand men who are making Seattle the greatest shipbuilding center in ica. Or, if you are engaged in work that is not essential to the winning of the war, good wages await you in many industries that have a direct bearing upon the support of Seattle’s boys and America’s boys who are tramping down barbarism on bloody battle fields, and who are falling daily in Free- . dom’s cause. : The United States Employment Bureau is a clearing house to bring the man and the job together.
