With ships making it possible to win the war, Seat- tle is lagging because of the scarcity of men. In thirty to sixty days men will be coming in from the harvest fields. The situation will be improved. But, NOW—to fill the gap! Two thousand men must be had—quick! The men are here in Seattle—engaged in business and the professions. They can save the day. If 1,000 of these men will place patriotism above personal considerations and get into the shipyards for sixty days, and 1,000 more will do the same thing for ninety days, Seattle’s premier center of shipbuilding for America will be safe. In a city of 400,000 people, surely 2,000 men can be found who will hear the call of the nation for ships, put on overalls, roll up their sleeves and go at it. Sacrifice vacations this year—forget the automo- bile trips you have planned—do some real WORK that will help vitally to win this war. America and the Allies have the Germans on the run. Let’s send ships to the Atlantic so fast that the fighters will want for nothing that transportation can bring them. Let’s send ships so fast that America will soon have those five million soldiers knocking sense into the heads of the Huns—knocking sense in or knocking the heads off. Let’s end this terrible war THIS YEAR! You, Mr. Business Man, Mr. Professional Man: Show you have the Brawn as well as the Brain. Show your muscles are just as good as they were in the school and college days. Ask no odds of anybody—accept labor conditions as thirty thousand and more Seattle shipbuilders are doing in the yards of this city today. WANTEDY From All Walks of Life in City’s Shipyards You can do it—and be a real, practical patriot. Get your hands and face grimy with the stain of toil—build up your physical strength; it will be like a course at Muldoon’s. Sure, you'll be making a sacrifice—but what of it? Aren’t the boys in khaki making sacrifices for YOU and your BUSINESS, your PROFESSION? What are thirty or sixty days of your time in the greatest and most righteous cause humanity ever fought for—compared with the sacrifices the boys at the front are making? Many and many an American lad is lying beneath the bloody grain fields of Picardy and the Aisne—be- side thousands and hundreds of thousands of French and British boys that have gone before. What if you have bought Liberty Bonds—and War Savings Stamps and contributed to the Red Cross? So have the thirty thousand and more who have al- ready made Seattle the banner shipbuilding city. Mr. Lawyer: Mr. Banker: Mr. Doctor: Mr. Architect: Mr. Merchant: Mr. Broker: This is a challenge to YOU! This is how YOU PERSONALLY can help WIN! Show you are a good sport as well as a patriot. Join the ranks right NOW—take your tin dinner bucket and get on the job. You are not going to give away your time, either— you're selling it, and getting a good price for it! Will SEATTLE respond? We KNOW she will—and we are waiting for YOU at the United States Employment Office. You are wanted not next month or next year, but NOW! U. S.
