DON’T take hold of the metal parts of electric light fixtures or lamps. In case of lights that turn off with key at socket, touch only ‘key or glass. If handling of fix- tures in use is necessary, put on rubber gloves. DON’T, especially, forget the foregoing precautions in con- nection with lights and fixtures in LAVATORIES and BATH ROOMS; when in the bath; when floor is wet; when hands are wet. When making any change in your house wiring or lighting system— DON’T fail to put in wall switches and do away with key- turn-off lights. DON’T use an electric lamp on extension to heat a bed —it may get too hot. (Many fires have resulted from this practice. ) DON’T allow a drop light or extension to remain in contact with clothing, papers, bedding, etc. (Same reason as last above.) Stop—Look—Listen—Safety First! DON’T touch guy wires connected with light, power or tele- phone poles.’ (Power and light wires sometimes be- come broken or slack and fall across or drop down upon guy wires thus causing them to become charged and highly dangerous.) In wet weather this danger is greatest. Parents should warn their children not to climb poles or swing on guy wires. DON’T, when watering lawn or making other use of water hose, throw stream on light, power, telephone or guy. wires. By disregarding this caution you may receive a fatal shock. The boy and girl Safety Scouts in our schools have this rule: “ANY WIRE MAY BE A LIVE WIRE—DON’T TOUCH IT.” DON’T pour water on any electrical apparatus or turn hose on it should same get onfire. If at such time you have water in bucket or other vessel, THROW THE BUCK- ET WITH THE WATER. Wet sand is best for use in such cases. DON’T hang clothes on or over exposed switches located in closets or elsewhere. You may thus save a visit from the fire adjuster. Report Any Arcing of Wires or Poles Burning Immediately to the Police Depart- ment—They Will Notify the Proper Authorities to Send Trouble Men to Repair the Fault There is a real, great danger to the crowds that collect at building fires, which are likely to spread to poles and wires near by. Keep a safe distance away always. DON’T climb trees through which wires run. Cases have occurred where men have been knocked out of a tree and badly burned by coming in contact with wires.
