The TESTING TIME of the AGES is upon us. Nearly a thou- sand years ago, the impassioned eloquence of Peter the Hermit thrilled Christendom, and sent its armed might to rescue the Holy Sepulchre from the Turk. In this enlightened year of Grace, 1918, a tremendously more vital cause is OURS TO DEFEND—and the brave dead of ALL TIME will turn IN THEIR GRAVES if this nation does not RISE TO A MAN and DEFEND IT! The WAR DRUMS are echoing around the globe—and stirring strange new feelings within the breasts of men. Not Christendom alone—but the MANHOOD OF THE WORLD is rising—and making common cause against a common foe. Which is the more honorable? There is no difference! Are you too YOUNG or too OLD. to fight? Is it YOUR job to swing a HAMMER, stand at a LATHE, delve ina LABORATORY, sell behind a COUNTER, sit at a DESK, work at a DRAFTING BOARD, pore over books as an AUDITOR, devise EXPERT BUSINESS SYSTEMS—or per- form any one of a THOUSAND other tasks? FINE! You are helping MAN THE LINE? You may never draw the Cross of War for what you're doing, but DO it—with ALL YOUR MIGHT—and HANG ON! Posterity will honor you for it! 3ut, play the SLACKER—act the part of the SKUNK, and hide in your HOLE in this supreme hour of your COUNTRY’S NEED—and do you know what will happen to YOU?
