The Seattle Times’ motive and object in supporting me was to defeat Hi Gill, to eliminate him from the City Hall. The Seattle Star supported me for these rea- sons and furthermore for the reason that for sixteen years I have worked for those principles that The Star stands and fights for. After the primary was over, the Seattle Times withdrew its support from me and stated that either Bradford or Hanson would be a sat- isfactory Mayor. Now this is the situation in Seattle today: My opponent, James E. Bradford, is sup- ported by every I. W. W., by every anti-govern- ment agitator, by every pro-German and by every near-I. W. W. labor leader in this city. If it was vital and necessary to this city to elimi- nate Gill, it is doubly vital and doubly necessary for the real people of this city to repudiate and to squelch for all time this traitorous, un- patriotic and un-American element that has combined in an attempt to name the next Mayor of Seattle. I don’t deny that my opponent is supported by many good people, but they must be in ig- norance of the fact THAT HE HAS THE UNITED SUPPORT OF ALL OF THE BAD PEOPLE, OF ALL OF THE UNPATRIOTIC PEOPLE AND ALL OF THE ENEMIES OF THEIR COUNTRY IN THIS CAMPAIGN. They must be in ignorance of the fact that my opponent, James E. Bradford, has done nothing, has said nothing which would drive that unpatriotic, un-American element from him. ON THE OTHER HAND, HE HAS AGREED TO DISCHARGE JOEL WARREN, PRESENT CHIEF OF POLICE, AT THE BE- HEST OF THIS ANTI-GOVERNMENT, L. W. W., VICE ELEMENT. If the people of this city are informed of the true situation, there can be no doubt as to the outcome. There are a hundred real Americans to every one I. W. W. or pro-German in Seattle. Ihave none of the latter classes among my sup- porters. I WANT NONE OF THEM. I DO — REAL AMERICANS TO SUPPORT M Some good people may have what they con- sider reasons for supporting my opponent, but let them consider this fact: THE L W. W., THE NEAR-L W. W., THE PRO-GERMANS AND THE VICE SYNDICATE ALSO HAVE: GOOD REASONS FOR SUPPORTING MY OP- PONENT, ELSE THEY WOULD NOT BE SUPPORTING HIM NOW. I have thosen throughout this mayoralty campaign to maintain my independence. I have asked no favors from any interest. I have re- fused to make private pledges to certain domi- neering labor leaders. No other interest has dared to approach me to ask for favors or for promises. I want to be the next Mayor of Seattle. I WANT TO BE A REAL MAYOR, PLEDGED ONLY TO GIVE ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF SEATTLE A SQUARE DEAL aA DECENT AMERICAN ADMINISTRA-
