rest Seattle Must Do $300,000 Worth of Good . PREPAREDNESS SEATTLE’ y a w MERCY OPPORTUNITY STAR—THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 1917. PAGE 8 Red Cross Week, June 18-25 TTT VT es \ ( et Md L po] \ OT ah To Save the Lives of Her Boys! The RED CROSS flag—the Flag of Humanity— is wav- ing over the land. Seattle is called to contribute toward the loftiest cause in which money can enlist—the saving of priceless human lives. It will be Seattle’s privilege to offer up her share to the National RED CROSS fund of $100,000,000. Willingly, gladly, will this city pledge $300,000 as her portion! ss * & © & What a pitifully small thing your share will be to ex- change for human life—perhaps the life of some dear one among those brave Seattle lads who will face shrapnel, poison gas, liquid fire, in distant France. Your money will buy many bandages to stop the flow of precious blood. * * * * + + Behind the bloody trenches, in No-Man’s land, wherever the wounded lie, wherever the dying are to be found— there is the RED CROSS. The flower of Seattle’s Manhood is going forth bravely to meet Fate in any form. Life-Blood will be shed to protect you here at home—to make AMERICA SAFE! Can you hold back the tenderest and most needful sup- port of all? With money in your pocket, can you refrain from giving, when thousands of Seattle men are offering their lives? The RED CROSS knows no home—except the wide, wide world. Wherever Humanity calls, the RED CROSS comes. It is the great Servant of Suffering, the Friend of Misery, the Nurse of Woe. It is impartial in its ministrations—its emblem is sacred—wherever Civilization still Stands. * * * * * * It is the American RED CROSS, headed by President Wilson, that now calls. Uncle Sam is doing his utmost to provide the soldiers and sailors with equipment of every kind—to WIN THE WAR! Uncle Sam is also providing surgeons and nurses to care for the sick and wounded—but he’ needs RED CROSS help. The RED CROSS is the Angel of Mercy upon the field. Its work is where the fighting is thickest—where it would be impossible for Uncle Sam to have enough doctors and enough bandages. - = 2 SD Next Monday Night a great parade will usher in APPEAL WEEK for the RED CROSS. Watch for it! * * * * Germany returns mi bitin 95 per cent of her wounded. AMERICA can do better— * * * With YOUR HELP! Don’t save your dollars; save your Boys! * * * DO YOUR PART SEATTLE!
