PACIFIC OUTFITTING CO COR THIRD & UNIVERSITY DRESSES MEN WOMEN nn WEEK YOUR CREDIT IS O.K. | f iloA. oot UDGE MILO A. ROOT is a candida for Judge of the SU- PERIOR COURT. At the primary election he received the nomina- tion by the enormous vote of 23,872. For four years Judg Root sat upon the preme bench and partici- pated in decisions of vital import to the people of this state. His opinions are recognized by law- yers as sound and right—- his record was a credit to himself and to the people who had elevated him to high office. Just : electior erve a term charge of an error in judg ment placed Judge Root in after his six-year an unfavorable light. He } had decided a case against a railroad company. This case was rendered upon a ded vote of the Supreme Court, three of the udges voting for the rail- road company, He the oth®q four voting against the rail- road company. Judge Root was one of the four. He wrote the opinion against the company! There was a re-hearing, and the railroad“attorney made certain suggestions, which were distorted and seized upon to make a charge that the railroad at- torney had written the opin- ion. This was untrue, but much publicity resulted. Critically ill, and discour- aged that any act of his should be so grossly misin- terpreted, Judge Root re- signed! A mountain had been made of a molehill! t had to Judge Root pay the penalty. \ minor part of that pe, alty was six years’ salary a justice of the Supre Court of Washington—$36,- 000 forfeited at one blow! A larger part of the pen- alty was Judge Root’s in- ward anguish and suffer- ing humiliation before his neighbors and friends; his city, his state Without a whimper or a cry out, virtually without financial means, without a clientage, and having a large family to sup- port, Judge Root commenced all over again the practice of law in Seattle. Judge Root had made a brave determination. He resolved to prove his worthiness, and that even a judge should not be con- demned to a life-sentence of ob- liquity, He resolved to show that a man’s a man for a’ that,” and that a man who has suffered himself is the best of all judges; a judge who knows human nature—a just judge of his fellow-men. Judge Root is an able lawye Eight years since leaving bench he has practiced, and on® and all admit that he has estab- shed personal good will and wide respect Judge Root has been on trial with you—-Mr. and Mrs, Voter- for eight years. He has been given the popular verdict for up rightness, honesty and straight his forwardness—witness his vote in the primaries Now he has the manliness, and the confidence in your sense of justice, to place his case squarely before you—the voters. No charge whatever is made against his honesty, integrity or moral worth. At the recent bar meeting, one lawyer said: “T have known Judge Root closely and intimately in daily association, and I now declare 1 have always found him a true Christian gentleman.’ It is for you voters to answer this Will you prevent Judge Rog from vindicating his own honor and the honor of human nature upon the bench? Put yourself in his place!
